This is Tanzania at its wildest and most unforgettable, one remarkable landscape and wildlife encounter at a time.
Welcome to Tanzania! On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, an Afromaxx driver will meet you and transfer you privately to your hotel in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity to explore the surroundings, enjoy views of Mount Meru or fit in a little shopping before the safari begins. Settle into Katambuga House and enjoy a relaxed first evening as the anticipation builds.
After breakfast, meet your private guide and leave Arusha behind as you travel towards Tarangire National Park. The park is known for its large elephant population, striking baobab trees and wonderfully varied scenery, from rolling hills and open savannah to seasonal swamps. Spend time game viewing around the Tarangire River before continuing to Honeyguide Tarangire Camp for the first of two nights in the park.
Today is dedicated to the quieter southern section of Tarangire National Park. Spend the full day exploring the Oloirbi Swamps, where seasonal wetlands and open grasslands create important water reserves and grazing areas for wildlife. With broad views across the southern plains and fewer well-travelled routes, this is a rewarding opportunity to settle into the pace of safari and see what the wilderness reveals. Return to Honeyguide Tarangire Camp in the evening.
Leave Tarangire after breakfast and travel towards the Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro highlands. On a clear day, the crater rim may offer views down into the Ngorongoro Crater before the road descends towards Nabi Gate. Enter the Serengeti and continue through its sweeping plains, game viewing as you go. By the time you reach Serengeti Tortilis Camp, the landscapes of one of Africa’s greatest wildlife regions will already have started working their magic.
Spend a full day game viewing in Seronera, described by the supplier as the heart of Serengeti National Park. Permanent water and reliable grazing sustain resident wildlife throughout the year, creating excellent opportunities to search for zebra, antelope, lion, cheetah, hyena, leopard and elephant. Hippos and crocodiles can also be found around the region’s waterways. With the entire day devoted to safari, there is plenty of time to pause, watch and appreciate the wonderfully unpredictable rhythm of the Serengeti.
Turn south through the Serengeti towards Ndutu, the seasonal heart of this Great Migration journey. The supplier notes that the migration moves into this region from November to March, following the rainfall and fresh grass. Large numbers of wildebeest and zebra gather across the nutrient-rich short-grass plains during the calving period, bringing extraordinary wildlife activity to the area. Continue game viewing along the way before spending the night at Lake Ndutu Luxury Tented Camp.
Begin the morning with another game drive across the Ndutu region, making the most of the wildlife viewing before the journey continues. From the plains, travel towards the Ngorongoro highlands, where Maasai cattle herds and wildlife share the wider conservation landscape. The road climbs towards the crater rim, with a noticeable change in scenery and atmosphere along the way. Arrive at Ang'ata Ngorongoro Camp in the evening, ready for tomorrow’s crater adventure.
After breakfast, descend to the floor of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. Search for zebras, antelopes, hyenas, foxes, lions, hippos and the crater’s large elephant bulls as you explore distinctive areas such as Lake Magadi and the Lerai Forest. Surrounded by the steep walls of this ancient caldera, it is a fitting final safari experience. Afterwards, travel back to Arusha for your last night at Katambuga House.
After breakfast, your Tanzania safari comes to an end with a transfer from Katambuga House in Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport. The transfer can connect with your return flight or an onward flight to Zanzibar. Leave with dusty boots, a camera full of memories and plenty of stories from nine unforgettable days in the wild.
No Fixed Departure Dates
The itinerary is designed around the seasonal movement of the Great Migration into the Ndutu region. The migration can move into Ndutu from November to March, following the rains and the growth of fresh grass. Major wildebeest and zebra concentrations can occur from December through April. Wildlife movements are seasonal and influenced by rainfall, so specific sightings and herd locations cannot be guaranteed.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Many international travellers require a tourist visa, which can usually be obtained through Tanzania’s official eVisa system before travel. Your passport should generally be valid for at least six months. We recommend checking the latest entry requirements for your nationality before departure.
Vaccination requirements depend on where you are travelling from and your recent travel history. A yellow fever certificate may be required if arriving from, or transiting for an extended period through, a yellow-fever-risk country. Malaria is also present in Tanzania, so travellers should speak to a doctor or travel clinic about appropriate precautions and recommended vaccinations before travelling.
Tanzania is well connected internationally, with flights arriving through major gateways including Kilimanjaro International Airport, Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. Your best arrival airport will depend on whether your journey focuses on the northern safari circuit, southern Tanzania, Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar.
Pack lightweight, comfortable clothing in neutral colours for safari, together with a warm layer for cool mornings and evenings. Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, insect repellent and a hat are useful essentials. If you are visiting Zanzibar or climbing Kilimanjaro, your packing requirements will differ, so pack according to your itinerary.
The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). Cash remains useful for smaller purchases and tips, while major hotels, lodges and tourism businesses commonly accept international payment cards. It is a good idea to travel with more than one payment option and carry some local currency for smaller expenses.
