Some journeys show you new places. Others quietly change the way you see the world.
This nine-day adventure carries you through the soul-stirring landscapes of southern Namibia, from the rolling red dunes of the Kalahari to the cool Atlantic shores of Swakopmund. Along the way, endless horizons, desert silence and wonderfully remote lodges create the feeling that you have stepped away from everyday life and into something truly extraordinary.
Stand at the edge of the immense Fish River Canyon, wander through the Quiver Tree Forest and explore the curious rock formations of Giants Playground. Travel onwards to Lüderitz and walk through the abandoned rooms of Kolmanskop, where desert sands have slowly reclaimed a once-prosperous diamond-mining town. At Garub, keep watch for Namibia’s legendary Wild Desert Horses roaming the open plains.
The journey reaches another unforgettable high at Sossusvlei, where towering red dunes rise above the desert floor and ancient camelthorn trees stand frozen against the white clay pan of Deadvlei. After exploring Sesriem Canyon, the road turns towards the ocean, with a stop in Solitaire before arriving in laid-back Swakopmund.
Travelling with an experienced Namibian guide and staying in comfortable, locally standard lodges and hotels, this is a relaxed guided journey filled with history, remarkable landscapes and moments of pure stillness.

Your lodge for the next two nights sits in magnificent isolation. After checking in, relax on the terrace and take in a seemingly endless landscape where the silence feels deep enough to slow down time.
Today brings together history, desert scenery and the windswept Atlantic coast. Begin in Lüderitz, where colourful German colonial architecture creates a striking contrast against the surrounding desert and ocean.
Continue to Kolmanskop, Namibia’s abandoned Diamond Ghost Town. Walk through rooms and passageways slowly filling with sand as the desert reclaims this once-thriving mining settlement.
On the return journey to Aus, stop at the Garub watering hole. If luck is on your side, you may see Namibia’s legendary Wild Desert Horses standing against the vast open plains. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon with time to relax.
After a leisurely breakfast, leave the quiet plains of Aus and begin the journey north towards Sossusvlei.
This is a wonderfully scenic day on the road, travelling through open spaces, rugged mountain scenery and horizons that seem to stretch forever. The landscape shifts continuously, revealing yet another side of Namibia’s extraordinary natural diversity.
Arrive at Hammerstein Lodge in the early afternoon and settle into the peaceful setting. As evening falls and the stars begin to fill the sky, the anticipation builds. Tomorrow brings one of Namibia’s most unforgettable experiences.
The day begins before the desert awakens, with pre-sunrise coffee or tea followed by an early departure towards Sossusvlei. Enter the park shortly after sunrise and watch the first light spill across the towering red dunes.
A 4x4 shuttle takes you the final 5 km into the dunes. Visit Sossusvlei and the surreal white clay pan of Deadvlei, where ancient camelthorn trees stand frozen against a dramatic desert backdrop. Afterwards, explore Sesriem Canyon.
Return to the lodge and spend the remainder of the day relaxing beside the swimming pool or enjoying the peaceful lodge gardens.
Enjoy a gentler start before leaving the timeless landscapes of the Namib and travelling west towards the Atlantic coast.
Along the way, stop in the tiny desert settlement of Solitaire, where you can enjoy a slice of its world-famous apple crumble pie. Continue through the changing landscape until the cool Atlantic Ocean finally comes into view.
Arrive in Swakopmund, a charming coastal town filled with colonial architecture, palm-lined streets and laid-back seaside character. A short sightseeing tour introduces you to the town before checking in at your hotel.
Today is completely yours to explore, play or simply slow down.
Choose an adrenaline-filled dune-boarding adventure, join a catamaran cruise with dolphins or enjoy an easy stroll along the beach. You can walk along the iconic Swakopmund Jetty, browse local galleries, settle into one of the town’s cafés or simply breathe in the fresh Atlantic air.
Whether you fill the day with activity or do very little at all, Swakopmund makes it wonderfully easy to enjoy the moment.
After breakfast, it is time to leave Swakopmund and begin the journey back to Windhoek.
As the Atlantic coast recedes and the open Namibian landscapes return, there is time to reflect on nine days filled with desert stillness, dramatic canyons, forgotten towns, towering dunes and ocean air.

Whether you need a visa for Namibia depends on your nationality. Some passport holders can enter Namibia visa-free, while others are eligible to obtain a visa on arrival. Your passport should generally be valid for at least six months and have at least three blank pages available for entry and exit formalities. As visa requirements can change, we recommend checking the latest requirements for your nationality before travelling.
Vaccination and health requirements for Namibia depend on where you are travelling from and the areas you plan to visit. A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate may be required when arriving from a country where Yellow Fever is a risk, and malaria precautions may be recommended for certain parts of Namibia. We suggest speaking to your doctor or a travel health professional well before departure for advice based on your individual itinerary.
Most international journeys to Namibia begin with a flight into Windhoek, from where you can continue your adventure by road or connecting flight. Namibia is particularly well suited to self-drive journeys and privately guided travel, while regional connections make it easy to combine Namibia with other Southern African destinations. Depending on your itinerary, Walvis Bay can also provide a convenient gateway to Namibia's spectacular Atlantic coast.
Namibia's official currency is the Namibian Dollar (NAD). When travelling through Namibia, it is sensible to carry some local cash alongside your payment cards, particularly when exploring more remote areas. Before travelling, check with your bank that your cards can be used internationally and consider carrying more than one method of payment.
Pack for adventure, but keep it comfortable and practical. Lightweight clothing, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, a hat and sunglasses are useful throughout the year, while warmer layers are important for cool mornings, evenings and winter game drives. A camera or binoculars are well worth bringing, along with any personal medication and your essential travel documents.
